Do you work in an office, at home, in the field or somewhere else? Would you change where you work if you could? What would you miss?

I work at home. If I could change it, I'd have someone come in and clean this dump. I'm not sure why I would miss something, because I'm not going anywhere.

QotD: Favorite Madonna Song

What's your favorite Madonna song?

Excellent question Vox. I am impressed. This is a difficult one. When I was in junior high, I was a die-hard Madonna fan. I loved the hell out of her. In fact, I'm pretty sure I grew tired of Thriller I channeled all of my adolescent obsession into Madonna. I had Madonna-esque earrings, gloves, all of it. And I'm pretty sure I was the only 6'2" eighth-grader running around Roosevelt Junior High in a neon-pink shirt emblazoned with Madonna's likeness.

This love was fostered by the fact that we got cable the summer between 7th and 8th grade and I'm pretty sure I spent as much time as possible glued to MTV. 

(I hope you realize it's taken me like an hour to write this because I have to stop and watch every video -- sadly embedding is not available. Right now I've made it to "Papa Don't Preach" which was, I believe, a particular favorite of my sisters who would sneak into my bedroom and play that record and dance). 

My answer kind of surprises me. I thought for sure good, ol' "Like a Virgin" would have been my favorite. But it's not. My favorite is. . . . "Borderline!" I'm not sure why, but I love the hell out of that one.

QotD: The Dumbest Thing I've Ever Done

What's the dumbest thing you've ever done? Did you get caught? (If you had not been caught, would it still be the dumbest thing you've ever done?)

I've done so many dumb things that cataloging all the dumb things would take entirely more time than I am willing to give to my mistakes. One of the dumb things I almost did was not answer a QotD this week and thereby forfeit Comment War. 

QotD: Street Food

Hot dogs, pretzels, meat-on-a-stick, roasted chestnuts... What's your favorite street food?

Where I live, street food would be food found laying in the street. Allegedly Minneapolis passed some sort of something to allow street-food vendors though I have yet to see any. The closest we come to street food (outside of a fair/carnival/event of some sort) is the fund-raising Brat Cabins that pop up in the parking lot of grocery stores. I cannot resist a good Brat Cabin, so I'll go with brats.

Literary allusions and oral fixations

There are certain things I do on a normal average day that without fail make me think of a book (or movie based on a book). Does everyone do this? I will share you a few of my literary allusions which all seem to revolve around food. I wonder why that is. Perhaps because food is a commonplace thing we can share with books whereas other literary situations are more unique. Anyway, on with the show

Since I have allergies (because being a 6'5", book-reading, glasses-wearing goodie goodie didn't make me quite nerdy enough), I take the wonderdrug Claritin-D (or really the generic Target version of it which comes with the delightful name Loratadine 10 mg and Pseudoephedrine Sulfate 240 mg Extended Release Tablet Antihistamine/Nasal Decongestant). Every single time I take a pill I say to myself, "O true apothecary let they drugs be quick!" Which is a riff on what Romeo says right before he cacks. 

I can't eat a grape without thinking about Blanche DuBois and "A Streetcar Named Desire."

And when I die, I'm going to die on the sea. You know what I shall die of? I shall die of eating an unwashed grape. One day out on the ocean I will die--with my hand in the hand of some nice looking ship's doctor, a very young one with a small blond moustache and a big silver watch. "Poor lady," they'll say, "The quinine did her no good. That unwashed grape has transported her soul to heaven." 

Hawaiian Punch makes me think of Peter Hatcher from Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, because his dad works for the Juicy-O (I think that's the name of it) account at his ad agency and the Hatchers drink a crapton of Juicy-O. 

You don't ever want to eat cherries around me because I will always, without fail, bring up that scene in "The Witches of Eastwick" where the witches make the religious lady barf up cherry pits (and yes, I think the scene is also in the book but I associate it with the movie more, mostly because Updike kind of bores me).

Oh, here's one that's not a food reference. This one comes from The Outsiders and happens whenever I come out of a movie theater. . . "When I stepped out into the bright sunlight from the darkness of the movie house, I had only two things on my mind: a ride home and Paul Newman."

That's all I can think of right now. Do you have any literary allusions that jump into your head randomly when you least expect it?
